A refreshing Sotol drink…Sotol Cooler

These warm September evenings are perfect for a fresh new cooler type drink. My wife and enjoyed this one that I created last night as we sat in our back yard with the evening creeping in.

Here are the ingredients:

– one oz sotol – I used Don Coco “Suave” – it is a bit tamer and smoother that the DC “Traditional”

-2 oz each of pomegranate or cranberry juice, diet tonic water, red wine ( like Cab or Merlot), and a squeeze of lime.

Serve this on ice…very refreshing!

Sotol is THE spirit of Chihuahua and the Copper Canyon area. It is made from the juicy stem of the desert plant of the same name.

Hey …another drink I heard of from Rosalva Delgado at CHEPE is “Chihuahua Colada”. This is just a colada type drink made with sotol. I have not tried this yet.

You can enjoy sotol, see where it is made in Janos, and even bring some back on one of our Copper Canyon train trips.

Hi Peter- yes…a truly great spirit. I wonder what type of Don Cuco you are buying there. I was just through the hacienda where it is produced with a couple of groups and I will be posting some pics and more recipes. We have been sipping the “Reposada” here in the evening- so good.
